About the Organisation

The Victoria Daly Shire Council became an entity on the 1st July 2008 through the amalgamation of 8 Northern Territory community councils covering an area of 168,000sqkm, an area approximately twice the size of Tasmania. Council's aim is to strengthen its communities with local people delivering shire services to their own communities with the skills and knowledge of their own culture, community and people.

Victoria Daly Shire is only three years old as an organisation, so Council are currently recruiting people who share their vision to help develop the new organisation.

About the Katherine Region

Katherine, with a population of over 10,000, is situated 300 km southeast of Darwin in the "Top End", the third largest community in the Northern Territory. The Region offers an abundance of experiences, boasting many natural attractions while providing a diverse outdoor and outback lifestyle for its residents.

Katherine is a naturally stunning part of the Top End, attracting tourists from around the world. Nitmiluk National Park near the town features many activities such as camping, swimming, fishing (lures only), sightseeing, canoeing, boat cruises and bush walk trails.

About the Opportunity

Victoria Daly Shire Council has a fantastic opportunity for a motivated Procurement Coordinator to join their Corporate Services team at the head office in Katherine, NT.

Reporting to the Governance and Planning Manager, you'll be providing a high standard of advice and strategic input relating to procurement, contract management and quality assurance.

More specifically this will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Providing advice and strategic input;
  • Ensuring the preparation of tender and contractual documentation for works and services;
  • Developing effective processes and procedures, as well as a contract performance review system;
  • Ensuring all contracts are signed off on execution and all requirements are filled;
  • Providing advice on tendering requirements and on contract law;
  • Administering tender and contract processes, including advertising, opening and maintenance of contract files; and
  • Preparing and distributing correspondence ensuring relevant insurance details are received prior to works commencing.

To be successful in this position you will require relevant tertiary qualifications and/or extensive experience in a similar position. You'll have proven experience in tender documentation along with an understanding of the principles of competitive tendering. Your experience in working with Indigenous people or in culturally sensitive situations is essential.

Along with your contract management experience, you'll be confident in providing procurement and contract advice as well as participating in relevant strategic planning activities. As you'll be working with a wide range of stakeholders across a variety of levels, you'll require strong interpersonal skills including excellent communication skills and the ability work under pressure and meet deadlines.

A working knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety regulations as well as the principles of Occupational Health and safety is also required, as is a current driver's licence and the ability to undergo a police check.
